Bells
The primary bell that I install on my custom horns and my conversions is a one piece, hand hammered bell made by Bernd Sandner of Erlbach, Germany. Bernd Sandner makes his bells in the CF Schmidt tradition and are the best bells that I have found. Sandner makes bells for most of the German manufacturers and many of the custom horn makers. The one piece, hand hammered bells are extremely responsive and resonant and maintain a clear, well centered tone at ppp dynamics. I also offer a two piece bell with a spun flare. This bell produces a brighter sound for people who want a bit more brilliance to their sound.
Different stages of the process
The ring is soldered in place and the flare is cut. The female ring is then soldered in place and the bell is filled with a pitch and a pipe is inserted to aid in bending. The bell cools over night and is bent the next morning. The bell tail is then "strapped" or sanded until all blemishes are removed, and then pre-buffed prior to installation on the valve cluster.
